We’re constantly tweaking and experimenting with what grows well in this area, really trying to elevate and showcase what Yolo County can do.

Family Owned & Estate Grown

Founded on sheep grazing property west of Woodland in 2005, Matchbook Winery has grown to produce about 200,000 cases of wine a year. Lane and John Giguiere – who met at Woodland High – run the winery, while John’s brother Karl directs the vineyard and farming operations.

“A Working Winery”

“We grow the grapes and process them right here,” says Lane. “The fruit never leaves the property.”

Matchbook grows about 15 varietals, including four different Chardonnays. Despite consistent good reviews, especially for the Arsonist brand and Matchbook Chardonnay, the company constantly experiments with new varieties and clones.

Matchbook produces six different brands: Matchbook, The Arsonist, Tinto Rey, Mossback, Chasing Venus, and Black’s Station.

Our Home in Yolo County

“We’re constantly tweaking and experimenting with what grows well in this area (…) UC Davis is such a great resource for us, not just intellectually in experiments and new clones and such, but a lot of our interns and staff are from UC Davis (…) there’s a great pool of talent.” -Lane Giguiere, Founder and Owner of Matchbook Wines
